Is a Quick-Dissolving Pill in the Rectum an Effective and Safe Way to Prevent HIV Infection? In recent years, the medical community has made great strides in the fight against HIV infection. While preventative measures such as antiretroviral therapy (ART) and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) have been proven to be effective, there remains a need for additional methods that can help protect against the virus without the need for daily medication. An innovative new approach to HIV prevention involves quick-dissolving pills that are placed in the rectum. While the concept may seem unorthodox to some, it has the potential to be a safe, effective, and easy-to-use "on-demand" method of HIV prevention.
